We spent three weeks in England in October and November 2019, to visit my Mum Lilian at her new home "Sunrise" in Eastbourne, and to start the long process of preparing her bungalow for sale.
We stayed in Seaford for most of the time, but took four days in the middle to make a up north. We crossed the Thames on the Woolwich ferry. We stayed in Ely and had a long visit to the cathedral there. We passed through the village of Upwell in the Norfolk fens where Lilian's grandmother's family lived. We made a quick stop at Gunby Hall in Lincolnshire before spending the night in Horncastle on the edge of the Wolds. We drove north to cross the Humber Bridge and returned to spend the night on the east coast at Mablethorpe. And on our last day crossed back over the Lincolnshire Wolds to Lincoln itself to visit the cathedral and castle.
For most of our three weeks we had rain, with only occasional sunny periods. One day a powerful storm combined with an extra high tide to produce dramatic conditions on the Seaford seafront.
Our return flight was mostly over cloud, but we were rewarded with a few minutes of clear sky and dramatic views as we flew over the Greenland ice-cap.
