We left Pointe-Claire in -16°C and flew out over frozen Lac Saint-Louis, not seeing much land until the mountains surrounding Mexico City as we started to descend.
The smog of Mexico City was very apparent before and after landing. We survived the immigrate, then claim bags, and then emigrate hassle and flew off in to the evening past several beautiful volcanoes that surround the city, arriving in Lima just before midnight.
For our free day before the tour started we took a cheap but friendly unofficial taxi to the Museo Larco, an excellent private museum of pre-Columbian Peruvian art, small enough to be enjoyed.
